Our Espresso Simple Bunk Bed features solid alder headboards and footboards, plywood side rails, and poplar mattress slats. The beds are assembled using bolts, and all of the hardware is hidden. The bunk beds are connected using metal dowels that fit into the legs of the top bed and the headboard and footboard of the bottom bed.

The twin over full bunk beds can certainly function as two separate beds. However, the twin bed will still have two short ends and the full will have two tall ends. Additionally, the ends of the full bed will have two exposed holes on the top of each end that would normally accommodate the hardware used in bunking the beds.
